Massage FAQs | Massage Therapy in Vacaville, CA
Looking for professional massage therapy in Vacaville, CA?
At Nourished Skin and Body Studio, massage sessions are customized to what your body needs that day. Whether you're dealing with everyday muscle tension, a stubborn tight spot, stress, or simply need time to relax and reset, your massage is tailored to you.
Here are answers to some of the most common questions about massage therapy, what to expect, and how to get the most out of your appointment.
What type of massage do you offer in Vacaville?
Every massage is customized.
Rather than choosing one specific massage style and sticking to the same routine every visit, I adjust your session based on what's bothering you, your pressure preference, and how your body is feeling that day.
Your massage may include a combination of therapeutic techniques, relaxation massage, focused muscle work, stretching, and other techniques when appropriate.
What is a therapeutic massage?
Therapeutic massage focuses on areas of tension, tightness, and discomfort while still allowing you to relax.
Some clients want a full-body massage with a little extra attention on their neck and shoulders. Others come in with one particular area that's been bothering them.
We'll talk before your session so I know what you'd like to focus on.
Do you offer deep tissue massage in Vacaville?
I can incorporate deeper, more focused pressure when appropriate, but deeper doesn't always mean better.
The goal of massage isn't to see how much pressure you can tolerate. It's to use the amount of pressure and technique that helps your muscles relax without leaving you feeling like you got hit by a truck the next morning.
Communication is always welcome during your massage. If you want more or less pressure, just let me know.
Do you offer massage for neck, shoulder, and back tension?
Yes. Neck, shoulder, and back tension are some of the most common reasons clients book massage therapy.
Massage can be customized to spend additional time on these areas while still addressing surrounding muscles that may be contributing to how you're feeling.
Do you offer cupping massage in Vacaville?
Yes. Cupping can be incorporated into certain massage treatments to complement hands-on massage techniques.
Cups create suction that lifts the tissue rather than applying downward pressure. Depending on your needs, cupping may be used on areas such as the back, shoulders, or other tight muscles.
Cupping can occasionally leave temporary circular marks on the skin. These aren't bruises in the traditional sense and usually fade with time.
How often should I get a massage?
It depends on your goals, lifestyle, and budget.
Some clients benefit from massage every 2–4 weeks, particularly when they have physically demanding jobs, exercise regularly, or experience recurring muscle tension.
Others schedule every 4–6 weeks for maintenance, relaxation, and stress management.
We'll find a schedule that makes sense for your body and your life.
What should I wear to my massage?
Wear whatever you're comfortable wearing to your appointment.
Before your massage begins, you'll have privacy to undress to your comfort level and get underneath the linens.
Professional draping is used throughout your massage, and only the area being worked on is uncovered.
Do I have to completely undress?
No.
You should always undress only to your personal comfort level. Your comfort and boundaries come first throughout your massage session.
What should I do before my massage?
Try to arrive hydrated and avoid eating a very heavy meal immediately before your appointment.
If anything has changed since your last massage—including an injury, surgery, pregnancy, new medication, or another health concern—please let me know before we begin.
This helps me determine whether any techniques or areas should be modified or avoided.
Does massage have to hurt to be effective?
No!
This is probably one of the biggest massage myths.
Some focused work can feel intense, especially when we're addressing a particularly tight area, but massage doesn't need to be extremely painful to be beneficial.
More pressure isn't automatically more effective.
Should I talk during my massage?
That's completely up to you.
Want to chat? We can chat.
Want to close your eyes and not speak to another human being for the next 60–90 minutes? That works too.
This is your time.
The one exception: please speak up about pressure, temperature, positioning, or anything else affecting your comfort. I want to know.
What should I do after my massage?
Drink water normally, take it easy if your body feels like it needs it, and pay attention to how you feel.
You may notice that your muscles feel relaxed or a little tender after more focused work. Gentle movement can feel great afterward.
I'll also let you know if there's anything specific I'd like you to do based on the work we did during your session.
Will I be sore after a massage?
You may experience some temporary tenderness, particularly after focused or deeper massage work, but significant pain shouldn't be the goal.
If you regularly feel extremely sore after massage, that can be a sign that the pressure or technique needs to be adjusted.
Is massage only for people who are in pain?
Definitely not.
Massage can be part of taking care of yourself before your body starts screaming for attention.
Many clients use regular massage to manage everyday muscle tension, support relaxation, take a break from stress, and simply feel better in their bodies.
You don't have to wait until everything hurts to book a massage.
How long of a massage should I book?
A 60-minute massage works well for general maintenance, relaxation, or focusing on a few specific areas.
A 90-minute massage gives us more time for a full-body treatment while still allowing plenty of focused work on problem areas.
If you always leave a 60-minute massage wishing we had another half hour, that's probably your sign to book the 90.

Facial FAQs | Customized Facials in Vacaville, CA
Looking for a facial in Vacaville that is customized to your skin instead of a one-size-fits-all treatment?
At Nourished Skin and Body Studio in Vacaville, CA, every facial is customized based on your skin's current needs and your long-term skincare goals. Treatments can focus on hydration, healthy aging, fine lines, texture, dullness, and restoring a healthy, radiant glow.
Below are answers to some of the most common questions about preparing for your facial, what to expect afterward, and how to maintain your results.
How should I prepare for my facial?
Come as you are! Clean skin is great, but don't stress if you're coming straight from work or wearing makeup. Your facial will begin with a thorough cleanse.
For a few days before your appointment, avoid aggressive exfoliation, at-home peels, or anything that has left your skin irritated or sensitive.
Please let me know if you use prescription skincare or retinoids or have recently received Botox, filler, laser treatments, chemical peels, or other professional skin treatments.
Should I stop using retinol before my facial?
Usually, yes. I recommend taking a short break from retinol, tretinoin, and strong exfoliating products before your facial, particularly when your customized treatment may include professional exfoliation.
Not sure about something you're using? Bring your skincare products or a photo of them to your appointment and we can go over your routine together.
What if I don't know which facial to book?
That's completely okay—and actually one of the benefits of booking a customized facial.
Skin changes with the seasons, hormones, stress, age, lifestyle, and even what you've been using at home. We'll talk about your concerns and goals before beginning and customize your facial based on what your skin needs that day.
If you've been searching for a Vacaville esthetician because you're overwhelmed by skincare choices, you don't need to figure everything out before your appointment.
That's my job.
Do you offer anti-aging facials in Vacaville?
Yes. Healthy aging is one of the primary focuses of my customized facial treatments.
Depending on your skin, your facial may focus on deep hydration, gentle resurfacing, brightening, improving the appearance of texture and fine lines, or supporting firmer, healthier-looking skin.
The goal isn't to make your skin look 20 again. It's to help your skin look healthy, hydrated, refreshed, and really good at the age you're in.
Do you offer hydrating facials?
Yes. Hydration is an important part of healthy skin at every age and is especially beneficial when skin feels dry, tight, dull, or depleted.
Your customized facial can incorporate products and techniques chosen specifically to replenish hydration and support your skin barrier, leaving your complexion looking softer, plumper, and refreshed.
Will I see results after one facial?
Most clients notice that their skin looks and feels smoother, more hydrated, refreshed, and glowing after their facial.
Concerns such as pigmentation, uneven texture, fine lines, or chronic dehydration generally require consistency.
Think of professional facials as part of your overall skincare routine rather than a once-a-year rescue mission.
How often should I get a facial?
For many clients, a facial every 4–6 weeks is a great rhythm for maintaining healthy skin.
If we're working toward a specific skincare goal, I may recommend a different treatment schedule. If your goal is simply maintaining healthy, hydrated skin and enjoying some much-needed relaxation, we can space your appointments accordingly.
Will my skin peel after a facial?
Most customized facials have little to no downtime, and your skin should leave looking hydrated and refreshed.
Some advanced treatments or stronger forms of exfoliation may cause temporary dryness, sensitivity, or light flaking. If your treatment has expected downtime, I'll explain exactly what to expect and how to care for your skin afterward.
What should I avoid after my facial?
Be gentle with your skin for the first 24–48 hours.
Avoid strong exfoliants, scrubs, retinoids, picking, and other potentially irritating active ingredients. Depending on the treatment you receive, I may give you additional aftercare instructions.
And don't forget your SPF!
Can I wear makeup after my facial?
You can, but when possible, I recommend giving your freshly treated skin a little breathing room.
If you need to wear makeup later that day, keep it simple and make sure your brushes, sponges, and applicators are clean.
Why is sunscreen so important after a facial?
Freshly exfoliated skin may be more sensitive to sun exposure, making SPF especially important after your treatment.
Daily sunscreen is also one of the most important parts of an anti-aging skincare routine. It helps protect your skin and the results you're working toward with your professional treatments and home care.
What should I use at home after my facial?
Immediately after your facial, keep things simple: gentle cleansing, hydration, moisturizer, and SPF.
I'll let you know when it's appropriate to restart your normal active products.
If your current routine isn't working for you, I can also help recommend professional skincare products based on your skin, goals, lifestyle, and budget.
What's the best way to maintain my facial results?
Consistency beats having a bathroom full of products.
A good cleanser, targeted treatment products, moisturizer, daily sunscreen, and regular professional facials can make a significant difference in how your skin looks and feels over time.
You don't need a complicated 12-step routine.
You need the right products for your skin—and the consistency to actually use them.
